Comments on Nicholas Unwin's Jazz Style
On
behalf of the audience who were at Histon British Legion on
Sunday evening, may I thank the organisers for presenting a
wonderful selection of music from a bygone era, featuring the
Nick Unwin Trio with guest singer Atila. Programme included
songs from the golden age of musicals, jazz standards, evergreen
compositions from Cole Porter,Johnny Mandel,Sammy Cahn-Jimmy
Van Heusen, plus a sprinkling from the Sinatra Catalogue. A
wonderful arrangement of The Stylistics hit "You make
me feel brand new" -was also a highlight. Again, many
thanks -they don't write songs like these today. – December 2008
I
am sure I speak on behalf of the audience who were at the Leys
School on Saturday evening in thanking those who had
arranged another superb Concert by the Nick Unwin Trio. Unwin -who
hails from Histon-treated us to the music of Jerome Kern,Oscar
Peterson,Lennon and McCartney (including a standout version
of James Pearson's arrangement of "Lady Madonna"),plus
a selection from "My Fair Lady", The Sylistics, and some
jazz standards. A throughly enjoyable evening, with songs from
the past superbly arranged and played by these most accomplished
musicians. – March 2011
